Water is racist

Or, it is in New Zealand, at least.

Mark Twain popularised the saying: “Lies, damned lies, and statistics” to say that nothing can less truthful than statistics.

We are presently beleaguered with statistics that show negative outcomes for Maori – from jails to health to Oranga Tamariki, (child protection service) we hear that colonialism and the white man are responsible. Society itself is racist and cause these negative outcomes.

Statistics show that water is also racist.

As at 2013 Maori made up 15% of the population, while Pakeha (white people) were 74%. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demogr...land#Ethnicity

Yet, for the five years to 2013, Pakeha made up 51% of drownings, while Maori accounted for 20% of people who drowned. https://img.scoop.co.nz/media/pdfs/1...s_National.pdf

Accordingly, Maori are 70% more likely to drown than Pakeha.

We must clearly legislate against water drowning so many Maori!
