Major US Pipeline Shuts Down Following Cyber Attack

This ransomware attack on a major US fuel pipeline is scary.
Quote:

Top U.S. fuel pipeline operator Colonial Pipeline shut its entire network, the source of nearly half of the U.S. East Coast’s fuel supply, after a cyber attack on Friday that involved ransomware. The incident is one of the most disruptive digital ransom operations ever reported and has drawn attention to how vulnerable U.S. energy infrastructure is to hackers. Reuters link
In this case I think Russian hackers are suspected but North Korea has been wreaking havoc too. In a story in March, Foreign Policy dot com reported on North Korea's extensive resume of cyber crime. State-sponsored North Korean hackers have stolen literally billions of dollars. :
Quote:

They’ve stolen billions of dollars, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. They’ve paralyzed the United Kingdom’s National Health Service, according to the U.K. Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office. And they’ve apparently hacked India’s newest nuclear power plant to steal its designs. North Korean hackers have gone from spying on and disrupting their South Korean adversaries to stealing large sums of money, robbing cutting-edge technology, and causing havoc. Foreign Policy link
