Databases

We have a number of Access databases at work, that we use for site specific data management issues. They were pretty much all written by a chap who worked on site, who was a wiz with Access, but left in about 2006. They are still being used, but some are showing their age.

In the Covid Politics thread, Wudang (and others) were critical of Excel/Access, and that one would be better using alternative databases.

While most people on site are competant with Excel, Access is less well known beyond mataining what we have.

What alternatives would people recommend for things such as:
Daily flow and analysis data
Waste management data
Personnel records
Action Tracking
...among other things.

While we have a SAP database, which is good for managing much of site's info and Group data, we really need stand alone databases for certain site specific issues.

One issue would be whether we could maintain it ourselves, as you could buy some database, or get someone to create one, but once they've been paid, they are unlikely to be there to help make future modifications years down the line.
