Multicultural, inclusive Australia

I’m motivated to start this thread in opposition to those who proclaim that Australia is fundamentally racist, despite the fact that 30% of the population was born overseas and 46% have a parent born overseas. No, we still hate darkies and are secret white supremacists.....

Here is the first names of children in my daughter’s primary school class next year. Even “Leon”, “Luke”, “Noah”, “Tatiana” and “Sienna” have Asian or Middle Eastern surnames. There are only two children with Anglo surnames.

Why aren’t these subversive children put in concentration camps? Our Nazi leaders will be aghast.

Yes, we do have debates about how refugees enter the country, mainly aimed at stopping dangerous boat arrivals. But Australia is more welcoming of people from other cultures than just about any other. This list is not anomalous. There are parts of my city where Asian and Arabic billboards dominate English ones. I’m proud of this.

But have at it those who imagine Australia a white, racist, intolerant nation.
