One for the Aussies: Capt Flinders' remains found.

One of the legacies of the construction of the new high speed rail link from London to Birmingham will be that the coffin containing the remains of Captain Flinders, the first person to circumnavigate Australia and after whom half of Australia seems to have been named, has been found during excavations at Euston Station.

The coffin was clearly marked with a lead plate bearing an inscription, so there is no doubt. The graveyard was built over, and all the headstones lost, during expansion of the station in the 19th century. Archaeologists will be removing over 60,000 burials from that one site!
