Is the culture of Law Enforcement broken?

After watching video after video of police all across the country beating peaceful protesters, I have come to the conclusion that the problems in law enforcement today is not just a few bad apples in a sea of good people. No, there is a culture of thuggery where cops protect other officers instead of protecting the people.

My best friend is a Seattle Police Officer, his sister is a Seattle Police officer, his ex father in law is a Seattle Police Officer and two brother in laws are Seattle Police Officers. I'm truly surrounded by cops. I love most of these people a lot. I can't imagine any of them hurting others. Well one maybe.

But there is something about police culture that leads to a kind of tribalism that needs to be reformed. I have watched and listened to them defend a police officer who shot and killed a wood carver as well as an officer the size of an NFL linebacker tackle at full speed a man half his size standing in line for a movie which resulted in the victim's skull slamming against the concrete walkway and permanent brain damage as well as an off duty police officer pulling a gun on a motorcyclist.

The excuses they give all the time is the public doesn't understand the difficulty of their job. But In my mind no matter how hard there job is, it doesn't warrant treating the public as the enemy.

It isn't one bad apple if the good apples cover for the bad.

How do we reform police culture? I'm convinced it needs to be done.
