Armadillos - sexual dimorphism?

I've been holidaying in Lanzarote, Canary Islands and went to the zoo where they had armadillos wrongly identified as the 9 banded version but these were clearly not 9 banded and hairy. I reckon they were the hairy armadillo Chaetophractus villosus, but between them they had different body plate patterns and wondered if this was sexual dimorphism; despite googling I could not find much information apart from sexual dimorphism being absent in armadillos. Maybe some one here can help?

The body plate differences is in the coverage of the rear quarters. Maybe these pictures can show it better than I can explain.

These plates cover the rear quarters.

But these plates do not cover the rear quarters to the same extent.

Or is this the difference between adults and juveniles?

Cute creatures all the same, which we don't get in the UK, but I understand they are a serious pest in the US.
