An idea on a variant of the thorium energy amplifier

In the usual conception of the thorium energy amplifier, a proton accelerator dumps into a molten lead spallation target and a neutron beam is developed which sustains the chain reaction in the subcritical pile.

It occurs to me that the Farthsworth-Hirsch Fusor, which is commercially sold as a neutron source, might be a better choice? The neutron flux is not high, but one could use a battery of them arrayed around the pile.

The technical arrangements for running even a few dozen Fusors are so much less than running a proton source that it's pretty compelling if it could be made to work.
