Is feminism losing its appeal for younger generations?

Some recent surveys have found something that might come as a surprise to you. We usually think of old people as being more conservative, and younger people more progressive (or liberal). But apparently not when it comes to feminism. I can only conclude that the word "feminism" itself means different things to people of different generations.

So here is one example. This is from the USA and for purposes of this survey, "older" means 50 or above and "younger" means under 50. The survey question was "Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Feminism has done more harm than good."

There was predictable partisan divide, of course, but the divide that might come as a surprise is the generation divide. Younger people, regardless of their party affiliation, were more likely to agree with the statement than older people of the same sex and party affiliation. 94% of older Democratic men disagreed with the statement, but only 41% of younger Democratic men, and 71% of younger Democratic women disagreed. Even older Republican men were more likely to disagree than either younger Democratic men or younger Republican women.

So, I think what it is is that for older people, the word "feminism" is associated with things like women having the right to vote, equal rights in the workplace, and things like that. But for younger people, they think of a chick with pink hair and a degree in Gender Studies yelling about The Patriarchy and women not being represented in video games.

Thoughts?
