If alcohol and tobacco are legal, why is MDMA illegal?

Can anyone explain why to me?

I have never taken MDMA, by the way. I have no personal experience of its effects. But I am a long-time smoker and a long-time drinker.

So I'm basically just wondering what is more harmful about MDMA than either tobacco or alcohol.
