Bullies are cowards

I thought this section was appropriate as there have been many threads about violence and bullying, but if mods want to move it, fair enough.

I have lived my long life in the belief that anyone who threatens you with violence will never carry it out. I’m batting .100 here. The ones who will are those who just hit you with no warning, and I’ve experienced this a few times - I was brought up in a tough part of Sydney.

Anyway after a very hard week involving much unpaid overtime I thought I would take my wife out to a Gold Class movie at Crown Casino in Melbourne (“On the matter of sex” an excellent movie) followed by lunch at the Atlantic.

At a nearby table at lunch a rather large, fat man wanted to go outside for a smoke and take his manbag with him. The staff said he couldn’t do this as it was against policy. Perfectly understandable as what is to stop a runner? So now commenced 10 minutes of abuse, vitriol and threats, including, unbelievably “Do you know who I am?”.

At this point Mrs Lionking looked me firmly in the eye and said “say nothing or I’ll walk out”. We had finished our meal and I started to walk out to pay at the counter. A member of staff said, “it’s okay sir, we will take your bill to the table. My response was “Sorry I don’t want to sit next to this pig any longer, I’ll pay at the counter”.

So I continued to walk there, as my wife headed for the door. Lo and behold the pig came up and said “Are you calling me a pig?”. My default position kicked in. “Yes, because you are”. “Did you know what the staff said to me?” “Yes, you are still a pig”.

After a bit of eyeballing and finger pointing, he went back to his table. At no stage was I scared.

The manager refused to take my card, said “thanks for supporting my staff” and shook my hand.

Stand up to bullies guys. They are cowards.

Any other encounters with bullies and the outcome?
