Snow in Brazil in July!! End of times? Proof or debunking of climate change?

These are a few of the typical headlines from internet articles AND Youtube videos... that I see EVERY year when there is a snowfall in Brazil.

Yes, because it DOES snow in Brazil every year.

In the Northern Hemisphere Summer, obviously, because it's the Southern Hemisphere winter!

The ignorance of some about climate and weather in Brazil should not be used nor to try to deny nor promote climate change.

Yes, because I usually see climate change deniers saying "see, if it's snowing in Brazil, it means Earth is NOT getting warmer".

To those, I must say the snowfall of 2013 was more widespread and accumulated more.

And in 1994 it was even more widespread and with more accumulation.

And in 1975 there were even football matches played under snow.

And in 1957, there was a true blizzard that accumulated 1 meter of snow.

And in 1870s there are records of a blizzard accumulating 2 meters deep snow and cattle buried in it.

So yeah, snow is not "new" in Brazil and it seems it's actually decreasing in intensity in the past 150 years.

Then there is a WHOLE LOT of ignorant people who do not realize that Brazil is in the Southern Hemisphere AND/OR that the seasons are reversed, thus it's WINTER.

Yes, videos and articles with sensationalist titles like "SUMMER SNOW IN BRAZIL!! The Climate is going crazy, climate change is real!"

And you also have the typical biblical fanatic that correlates anything he doesn´t know with miracles OR the end of times.

And finally, you have simply people who were not aware it snows in southern Brazil. I have no problem with those unless they insist on being ignorant, like some saying "it should NOT snow in Brazil, as it is tropical!" or "it certainly is the first time that it snows there", even after pointed out the contrary.

First of all, a simple Google or Youtube search for SNOW BRAZIL and changing dates for previous years, would return hits and videos. Is that so hard to do?

As for geography, the 3 southernmost states are outside the tropical zone, it's an area larger than France with 30 million people.

And as a curiosity, the northernmost point of Brazil is closer to ALL, yes, ALL countries in the Americas than it is to the southernmost point of Brazil.

A small sample of the idiocy

And then we also have the typical misinformation, some of it spread by important media outlets, and copied by Youtubers, etc. Like that info about being the first time there is snow in Brazil in 64 years.

64 years ago was the time of the last TRUE BLIZZARD I mentioned earlier, when there was meter deep snow accumulation. There was NOTHING of the sort this year, not even close. Last time it was similar to this year was 2013 and a little less in 2012 and 2009.
