Nevada Elects Dead Pimp

So. Wish I could say this was a joke, but...no.

Outspoken brothel owner (legal in Nevada) Dennis Hof runs for State Assemblyman. Dies a few weeks before the recent election. Wins the seat.

Got a few questions here (many, actually):

1. Why couldn't he be removed from the ballot? I get that there are logistics involved, but in broad brush strokes, why couldn't a mass mailing go out to each voting place to put a piece of black tape over his name, and maybe some handwritten signs? Shouldn't be so Herculean a task with weeks to prepare.

2. Not to get all Jim Crow, but should there be some kind of voter eligibility test? The people of Nevada evidently need one. If the seat would revert to an assigned lieutenant assemblyman or to a council who would appoint a successor, were the voters made aware of this result? Any Nevada-ians input regarding polling place notifications would be appreciated.

3. An actual pimp for State Assembly? Really?
