Another tragic shooting in the Houston area, and this one has some circumstances open for discussion.
So a lot depends on the situation, and since the boy is dead, we'll probably never know the whole story, but the questions are discussion worthy.
Is it okay to shoot someone in your house because you don't recognize them? Was the man scared for his daughter, or angry? Did the boy do anything threatening? Is this murder? Manslaughter? Justifiable home defense? What (if anything) did the man say to the boy before he shot him?
Obviously there is a lot not yet known, but in my mind, this situation deserves to be examined as thoroughly as the Trevon Martin killing, and maybe some laws need to be re-examined.
Quote:
a man fatally shot a teenage boy early Thursday morning who was in his 16-year-old daughter's bedroom in a home in northwest Harris County. Police said the man told investigators he heard noises in his home and went to investigate. He encountered the 17-year-old boy in his daughter's bedroom. There was a confrontation and the teen was shot. He died at the scene. Herman said investigators learned the teen was a friend of the daughter's and she had let the boy into the home. |
