60 days for rape

On 04 October an unnamed (to protect the victim) 40-year-old man stood in front of Judge John C. McKeon at the 17th district in Montana having admitted to the repeated incestuous rape of his 12-year-old daughter. He's already agreed, via a plea deal, to serve 25+ years in prison.
Instead the judge ignored the plea deal and sentenced him to 60 days in prison for the lesser offense of felony incest, with credit for 17 days already served.
He'll also have to register as a sex offender and attend community-based sex-offender treatment.

The Deputy County Attorney, Dylan Jensen, says he was "shocked and disappointed" by the sentence and around sixteen thousand people have signed a petition calling for McKeon's impeachment; though the judge is due to retire in November the impeachment would strip him of his pension.

The petition states that McKeon "does not deserve to collect retirement from the people of Montana" and "It is time to start punishing the judges who let these monsters walk our streets".
In response, McKeon says a social worker [Michael Sullivan] determined the man was "unlikely" to re-offend and cited letters from friends and family in support of community-based treatment. These described the man as a "good father for 12 years" and his crime a "mistake".

More.

Yay America.
