GOP Platform

My disclaimer up front is that the platform is not completed, voted on and published but based on the the New York Times article I find it a bit scary.

Quote:

The platform demands that lawmakers use religion as a guide when legislating, stipulating “that man-made law must be consistent with God-given, natural rights.”

It also encourages the teaching of the Bible in public schools because, the amendment said, a good understanding of its contents is “indispensable for the development of an educated citizenry.”
Granted, I don't think these would pass constitutional muster if challenged but it sounds like the Christian conservatives are pushing for Christianity as the national religion.

For conservatives on this forum, would you see anything change in the platform? What would you want it to include?

Republicans would get a lot more traction with me if they abandoned these social issues and stuck to more fiscal issues but there seems to be a faction that wants to fight a culture war.
