Can anyone help plug a gap in my knowledge / thinking please.
When looking for signs of life on other planets, conditions similar to those on earth are sought for as being the basis for which life can establish itself.
Here's the bit were I have the issue; if life on earth evolved in accordance with the surroundings, then couldn't life on other planets evolve in accordance that the conditions there?
Is it that life similar to ours is easier to detect as we know what it looks like or that it is assumed that life can not exist outside the conditions found on a Goldilock planet or is it something that I am overlooking?
Can someone please explain / educate as applicable.
Thanks
