Your personal ideas and theories about Ancient Understanding

In another thread we were discussing the way Ancient civilizations built huge statues and other such things. Egypt, Easter Island, etc etc etc. (Disclaimer, I do not believe that aliens did anything. Got it? Ok )

Anyway so it got me to thinking about what it could have like to live in ancient societies. I think some people tend to think that as humanity has gotten more sophisticated our psychological make up is very different from the people in the past.

But I'm wondering about that. Sometimes I think about Ancient Egyptians building pyramids as less sophisticated thinkers who were like drone workers completing the work. I wondered what would make them want to build these huge structures. And then I saw this picture.

And it occurred to me that maybe drawing it is what caused the desire to build it. (Please note that I understand that this drawing was done after the fact <<<<please read that three times.)

For example, a lot of our technologies are based on fiction. We see science fiction and want to be able to do what we saw on the screen. It motivates us.

So it occurred to me that when someone drew a picture of tiny Egyptians and then a giant statue next to it, that alone could have been the impetus for the desire to make the huge statues.

Of course we won't really know, but I thought it would be an interesting discussion to consider what ideas and theories you have about the past and how things came to be invented or cultural traditions or religious rituals came to be.

Disclaimer, this is a casual discussion. You do not need to PROVE your theory, although it's probably more interesting if you explain your line of thought. This thread is intended to be a casual discussion and so any debating of a person's ideas is OFF TOPIC.
