why are some candidates so personalized, others aren't?

"Hillary", "Mitt", "Jeb", "Bernie"... don't remember ever hearing anybody ever say "Ted" when talking about Cruz. The current President isn't referred to as "Barack", he's called Obama.

Maybe Trump (see what I mean) refers to "Marco" instead of calling him Rubio... but that's intended as a diminutive.

Carson, Chafee, Walker, O'Malley, Santorum, Christie, Webb, Kasich, Huckabee, all last names. It wasn't "Ben", "Lincoln", "Scott", "Martin", "Rick", "Chris", "Jim", "John" or "Mike", was it? Carly Fiorina, maybe Rand Paul, definitely Vermin Supreme, I'm not so sure about.

It all reminds me of when people used to refer to a certain dead guitarist as "Jerry" as if they knew him, making them really cool somehow.

But as he once said: "if you got it all together, what's that stuff all around it?"
