Is Donald Trump the Kwisatz Haderach, or the Mule? The Chosen One who will bring balance?
Science Fiction and Fantasy has a bit of a trope of people who are too far outside the norm to be reliably predicted. Massive change ensues.
In Dune, it was Paul Atreides and his son. The Kwisatz Haderach was expected, but not in the form of Paul or Leo Atreides.
In the Foundation books (Asimov), a character called "The Mule" arises. He was too far outside of the normal abilities of humans to have been predicted by the phsycohistorians, much to their horror.
Now we have a giant carrot with a squirrel on his head suddenly overwhelming the GOP, much to the horror of the GOP itself. Am I the only person seeing the comparison?
ETA: I don't intend for this to be a political discussion about Trump, we have a whole bunch of those already. I was thinking more of comparisons between Trump and his campaign, and literary references, especially among SF and Fantasy.
