Contact Form & Phishing

I may not fave the right term when I use the tern Phishing but I believe it is at least closely related.

The host I was using is effectively dead. They are still hosting material but it is effective dead otherwise. My credit card is up in a couple of months and just plan to not give them my new credit card.

On my new website, I used most of the code from my old webpage but revamped my contact form using php coding. Been seeing these messages hower which appear to be some kind of web crawling program. Subject, sender, and commend filled with basically garbage. There is an email address which I believe was a .ru in both cases.

I have an automated "Thank you" email generated once the contact form is filled. That does give them a contact email address. Obviously, it is Phishing for an email address. It is not a direct one I use however. It just a couple of minutes, half hour at most, I can change that email address and delete the old one. Maybe I need to put a capture code on the form where one has to fill out a code in order to proceed.

However, I am not really understanding the point of this? I imagine for spam purposes but wouldn't somebody with a php coded contact form be pretty sophisticated with regards to spam?
