Can installing too much RAM harm a computer?
A buddy gave me an old laptop that was no longer in serviceable condition. I cobbled it back together and re-installed the OS. The computer seems to running fine now but I've found that there is too much RAM installed.
The computer has two SODIMM slots that were intended for a maximum of 1GB of DDR2 RAM each. Currently there is a half-GB RAM stick in the primary slot and a 2GB RAM stick in the secondary slot.
The computer 'sees' just 2GB of RAM, but I'm thinking that I should remove the excess RAM and install just 1GB of DDR2 RAM per slot. Can leaving the excess RAM installed possibly hurt the computer???
