What do you do if you're attacked by dogs?

A Dallas woman died last month after being bitten more than 100 times by a pack of feral dogs near her home. Witnesses called 911 but were afraid to intervene. Question: What do you do if you're attacked like that? I think for most people, kicking one dog, even two, might be pretty effective. But what do you do against a vicious pack? (I'm assuming you're not walking around with a gun or a baseball bat. Pepper spray might be more practical.)
