Move a planet

Hi!

I'm having a little discussion about a scene in Star Trek II where it's claimed that a planet's orbit is shifted when another planet explodes. It's a silly science scene, and I got to thinking about the energy involved.

What I'm after is the equation I'd need to calculate the energy required to make a planet move from one orbit to a different orbit. So for example how much energy would it take to move Earth from the current 1 AU radius orbit to an orbit of radius 2 AU?

I've googled around for answers and found people working similar problems, but many of them seem to use different formulas and get very different results.

Thanks for anybody who can help.
