LGBT terminology

Yesterday, I attended a training course designed to familiarize non-LGBT folks with the various aspects of the community, and to allow the designatiion of "safe zones'.

This is campus-wide, not just the police department.

Since I'm a bit of a student of human sexuality, not much was new to me, though I confess I had not heard the term "cisgender" until I saw it on a thread in this forum.

However, what was new was the use of new, non-gender-specific pronouns. "Ze" for "him" or "her", "Zis" for the plural.... The whole range of personal pronouns is covered.

I said that though I'm reasonably well-read, I had never encountered such a thing, and I was assured by the two facilitators that these terms were in wide use and not just in the academic community.

Maybe I don't read any LGBT-oriented material..... I assured these folks that if any of these words crept into our reports they would be promptly returned for correction....

Anyone else bump up against this terminology?
