Tears viewed under a microscope

Articles and photographs have been doing the rounds in relation to the artist Rose-Lynn Fisher's photography of tears viewed under a microscope, and the remarkable patterns they make.

The Topography of Tears

She claims to have viewed 100 tears under a microscope.

Has anyone seen or heard her explain whether the patterns would be similar when people cried for similar reasons? e.g. "Onion tears" would be basically the same no matter who cried them.

Or are tears like snowflakes and every pattern is different (assuming that's not an urban myth about snowflakes, but you know what I mean)?
