Science! SuperPAC Candidate Questionnaire

A couple of years back, in the wake of the Colbert SuperPAC, I set up a super PAC of my own, named "Science!" (The punctuation is legally part of the name.)

Since that time, though, I've been at a bit of a loss as to what to *do* with the PAC, since it doesn't exactly have any money. This year, though, I thought of a very low-cost endeavor: a candidate questionnaire on science topics.

I put together a 15-question multiple-choice survey, and have started emailing it to candidates in Georgia. I've received, and posted, a little more than a dozen responses, mostly from challengers.

Now one thing I'd *like* to do is expand my efforts to other states. I'm already planning to send questionnaires to everyone on the House Science Committee, and any science committee members in the Senate who are up for reelection. I'd love to be able to do all the states, but collecting email addresses can be time-intensive. Especially in primary season.

So if you like the questionnaire, and would like to see how candidates in *your* state would answer it, just send me a list of candidate email addresses at info@sciencesuperpac.org . (Limiting the list to select offices is fine, but please don't choose *just* candidates from one party or candidates you don't like.) I'll send them all the questionnaire, and post the responses I receive.

While the current questionnaire includes a couple of questions that are specifically about federal projects or funding, I can easily cut those out to create a questionnaire for state or local candidates. For instance, as we've seen, the scientific views of school board members can have a huge impact, and they're just city or county candidates. Wouldn't it be useful to know if your local school board candidate is a creationist?

Any feedback is welcome as well, including any other ideas on what to do with the SuperPac if and when it actually has any money to spend. Apart from the questionnaire, one idea I've had is to create ads opposing anti-science legislators on Congressional science committees. Even if they're only on YouTube, perhaps their novelty will garner them some attention.
