Question for actual Mac geniuses, not the fake geniuses

So my IMac keeps losing the video screen. When it happens the computer is still on as tested by the chirp of the volume control which works when the screen goes blank.

I have taken it in twice now and they keep thinking they fixed it, then I get it home and a week or more later it breaks again.

First time the hard drive was also failing, (which it was, so it wasn't a shot in the dark). They replaced it, and everything worked for several weeks then the original problem recurred.

I took it back. Thing was, the computer worked when it was in the shop. They couldn't get the problem to recur. They claimed it was in the software based only on the fact they could not find any part that tested bad.

But the problem did not recur there.

So they reformatted the hard drive and I only downloaded my old data, not any old applications. I reinstall one program from the original disk.

Things are fine for a week or so and now the problem recurs. I do not believe it is the software.

The symptoms are the screen blacks out and I hit the keyboard it comes back on. But the next day it happens again and this time the screen will only stay on a brief time. By the third or fourth time it blacks out it won't come back on at all.

This exact same pattern has now recurred 3 separate times with the screen blacking out a day before it gets worse.

I have just now let the computer cool completely off. It is not related to the temperature of the computer or how long I've let it stay asleep. I assume if I unplug it, it won't make any difference as it did not matter before. Rebooting has no effect. Though the computer has made it through boot up, the screen still won't stay on once it boots.

I have not yet tried any maneuvers with the boot disk.

Does anyone have any ideas that these guys at the Apple store (who I believe only know how to run little tester devices and one has no guarantee of an actual expert) haven't thought of?

Or anyone know of any real experts in the Seattle area I can take it to instead of the Bellevue Apple store?

Should I go for the new video card if they aren't sure that's the problem or is it better not to gamble and just buy a new IMac?

Thanks in advance.

Edited to add, I bought this computer in 2008, I think, though it doesn't seem like it's that old so it might have been 2010. I'm the only person I know who has gotten a Mac lemon.
