Optical Drive Rejects Burned DVD

Here's a weird error where one of you may have some suggestions:

I have an older MacBook with a built in Superdrive (DVD burner). Since yesterday, it rejects recently burned DVDs. It whirrs and clicks, speeds up and down, then ejects the DVD.

The weird thing is this: It reads a factory made software disks just fine. It reads a movie DVD just fine.

Gets weirder: I can burn a DVD no problems. It burns, it goes through the verification and then mounts the DVD. I can read all the data (it seems. I just tried a couple of files). If I go on and eject this DVD and try to re-insert it, the above mentioned rejection happens.

That's all the testing I have done so far. Any thoughts?

(This is not a critical error right now. I hope the recently burned DVDs are not lost and still readable, but it's not a big deal if they are. I won't invest anything in a replacement drive since the machine is so old. If push comes to shove, I'll buy an external drive. There's a nice Samsung one that costs less than 30 euros that should do everything I need it to do.)
