Flouride truth

ETA: changed color of my replies to the quotes so they are easier on the eyes (I hope).

I'm seeing a post on Facebook make its rounds stating that Flouride is bad for you, and the government not only knows about it, but is actively involved in it. All the usual conspiracy theory stuff. Here is a link to the website that the post points to:

I'd like to break down the points of that website and debunk them so they are in one thread. I dug around here in the forums and found a piece of info here, a piece there, but nothing all in one place. I don't have a lot of time over the next few days to break each point down with a strong counter argument. Most of the points they try to make are using doses much higher than the maximum suggested by the WHO.

Here is that site broken down into sections. This may get long (sorry!):

"The year before water fluoridation began in the United States, the entire dental profession recognized that fluoride was detrimental to dental health. In fact, in 1944 the Journal of the American Dental Association reported that using between 1.6 and 4 ppm (parts per million) fluoride in water would cause 50% of adults to need false teeth. On top of that, the world’s largest study looked at 400,000 students, revealing that tooth decay increased in over 25% with just 1ppm fluoride in drinking water. (http://ift.tt/1iLX4Qh)"

For one thing, I see that the dose listed here are above what the WHO recommends as the top end of what places should use. They show no evidence that current levels of 1.5 ppm and below are harmful.

"One part of the hoax, “fluoride helps with tooth formation,” was removed from the “American Fluoride Campaign” early on. Realizing this might expose the entire campaign as fraudulent, the FDA and CDC simply removed that language, but kept the masses believing that fluoride keeps dental cavities at bay"

My quick searches didn't find any evidence of this. Need to look into this further and provide evidence against it if possible.

"Research proves that fluoride is an extremely neurotoxic chemical which interrupts basic functions of nerve cells in the brain and can lead to Alzheimer’s, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), infertility, birth defects, diabetes, cancer and lowered IQ. The aluminum “tricks” the blood-brain barrier and allows chemical access to brain tissue."

Since dosage isn't listed here, I'm assuming they are referring to sustained doses far above the maximum amount suggested by the WHO (again). Anything below that has never shown to have these effects. Ever.

"Think fluoride is used by the rest of the world? France, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Finland, India and Great Britain have all rejected its use after special commissions and health secretaries reviewed the negative evidence"

I believe some of these countries do indeed use Flouride. Someone in another thread gave Northern France as an example. I'd like to find out if the other countries do indeed not use Flouride in their water (and why). I could also point out here that many of these countries mostly ban GMO foods even though they are shown currently to be perfectly safe.

"Think fluoride cleanses the water? Think fluoride fights cavities and strengthens bones?"

I snipped out a lot of the text in those two quotes. They basically say the same thing as earlier. It is bad for you and give more examples of military uses, health side-effects, etc. But again, it doesn't give dose levels, and the stuff they give as examples all come from doses far higher than the maximum amount recommended.

"Fluoride has never received FDA approval and does not meet “requirements of safety and effectiveness.” The FDA states that fluoride is a prescription drug. Because this “drug” is put in municipal water, there is absolutely no control over individual dosage."

Not sure how to counter this argument yet aside from saying it is misleading.

It goes on further about about how this is a conspiracy to make us sick so they can sell us expensive healthcare. Kind of funny actually. Does anyone have other anti-Flouride examples they'd like to add here? Any thoughts?
