So I'm in a hotel room looking out the window when I see an intense bright blue-white burst of light. Sure enough, it's from a high-rise under construction, perhaps 100m or so away. A worker is bent over and every now and then the light repeats. A welder, right? Seems to be doing something near the edge of a floor.
Falling from the weld (or so it seems) are bursts of yellow 'sparks', some brighter than others. They fall at least 10m, perhaps even 20m (perspective makes it hard for me to judge), then hit a screen extending outward from a lower floor.
These sparks are (liquid?) blobs of metal, right? And they're bright at least in part because they're hot. But are they also burning, is there also an exothermic reaction between the surface of the hot metal (possibly liquid) and the oxygen in the air?
