WW2: what's the difference between kesselschlacht and "deep battle"

I've read a fair bit of WW2 books over the years, and I've always understood the Wehrmacht's way of kesselschlacht: surrounding an army and then killing it in concentric battle. And they did it pretty effectively; it defines their whole Eastern Front approach.

However, I've never understood the Soviet's "deep battle" concept, or how it differs from kesselschlacht. It has breakthrough and exploitation elements, but what exactly is it compared to kesselschlacht? What was it trying to accomplish that kesselschlacht didn't?
