In NZ, it is strictly forbidden to use gender as a reason to exclude someone from employment, except for a few protected jobs.
In this case, someone at a labour hire firm told a woman that they don't hire women.*
Clearly a new staff member, knowing only half the rule - "We don't hire women... but we never, ever, say that!"
The firm is quite right. They know with 100% certainty that if they send a woman along to a labouring job, they will lose business. Labouring teams - which is what the company supply staff for - are made up of the bottom of gene pool, and the managers know that having females around is disruptive to work and will absolutely cause trouble.
That isn't a good thing, but it is reality.
It's also where all the best intentions and legislation break down irretrievably. Human nature would need to change first and until that does, the legislation just won't work.
