Trying to pair my Bluetooth speakers with a device and am frustrated.

I bought a couple of JamPlus speakers.
I paired then with each other and then paired them with my iPad. Everything went beautifully. Then I switched one to mono and paired it with my iPhone. Again, great success.

Now I am trying to link the pair of speakers to my iPad and am completely stuck. Several times, I tried the reset buttons on the speakers, I tried everything I could find in a dozen threads on the Apple website, I re-read the speaker manual (advice for tech writers: don't use humor when writing instruction manuals. Many of the people reading them are quite frustrated and do NOT appreciate your little jokes).

I can get the speakers to link to each other (the first step in a stereo pairing). I can get the joined speakers to speak the message "ready to pair." I can get the speakers' blue light to flash quickly (a signal that the device is ready to pair). I can get my iPad to "see" the joined speakers on the list of Bluetooth devices in the area, but I cannot get the iPad to actually link to the speakers. I click on Jam2 in the Bluetooth menu of my iPad; I get a clock; and then I get a message saying that it cannot link.

Do you have any advice?

I powered down my iPhone while doing all the resetting.
