This is not something the Republican Party needed. After taking every opportunity to rub up against the Duggar family as a symbol of conservative family and religious values, it has all fallen apart.
The oldest son, Josh Duggar, worked as Executive Director of the Family Research Council. Josh has now resigned and the show 19 Kids And Counting has been canceled. What caused this shift was making public that Josh began sexually molesting girls at the age of 14, that this involved at least five minor girls including several of his younger sisters, and that this was ignored and covered up by both the Duggar parents and by law enforcement who were friends of the family. Josh was never charged because by the time any serious investigation occurred, the statute of limitations had already passed.
