The Randi challenge may be the motivation behind some of this crap, but Randi was always very careful to (1) actually have the money and (2) not require a subjective determination of success. The challenger had to describe in advance exactly what would be judged as a success, committed to by mutual agreement in a contract, and if it was achieved, then the challenger would win the money. Still waiting, of course.
