A woman from New Mexico named Veronica Vigil is suing Anne Taintor Inc. claiming the company obtained and used her high school graduation picture from 1970 on gift shop flasks without her permission. In addition, Ms. Vigil (who says she does not drink and has never used drugs) claims to have been defamed by Taintor's linking her image in a way that makes light of substance abuse. Link
Ironically Anne Taintor is a feminist who adorns products such as luggage tags, mugs, coaster sets or flasks with images of stereotypically cheerful and upbeat middle-class women as portrayed in 1950s-era magazine and news ads. Added are deliberately subversive tongue-in-cheek captions such as-

Anne Taintor is a Harvard educated Visual Arts grad while Veronica Vigil is a working class New Mexican high school grad who operates an auto-restoration shop with her husband. I think part of the problem is, Veronica Vigil doesn't get this kind of sardonic humor. The other part is...they used her image without permission. :rolleyes:
