Neanderthals and Chimps

I just encountered the following comment elsewhere on the internet:

Quote:

They used to say that humans had 98% of the genes of a chimp, but when they started sequencing genes and comparing them, it severely blew that idea out of the water. There were so many differences right off the bat, that after more than 50,000 and still early in the project, the study went to comparing humans and neanderthals. It was useful in that it’s now known that neanderthals were just humans who had dietary deficiencies. It’s also an object lesson in how severe malnutrition can mess up a person’s body.

I initially suspected, and a quick Google seemed to confirm, that these claims are based in Creation science. God created humans, and God created animals, and never the twain shall meet.

Am i correct in my assumption that the quoted passage is a load of rubbish?

(I see that the current human/chimp similarity is about 94%.)
