I recently received a handwritten letter in a plain envelope, just a street address for the return address.
It began by offering condolences for the recent loss of my mother Wanda, which is problematic for two reasons:
1) My mother died in 2009.
2) Her name was not Wanda.
In any event, the letter went on to inform me that I could learn more about her fate after death, and mine I suppose, by making contact with my local Jehovah's Witnesses.
So, apparently, these illegitimate sons of Canis familiaris are going through the obituaries, finding the names of people who might be in mourning, and trying to recruit via letters of "condolence." (Seems like a sequel to Paper Moon.)
Anybody else seen anything like this? Maybe I'm overreacting, but it seems kind of awful to me.
