Popular TV personality Gina Dirawi has been announced as the person fronting the traditional Christmas programming on Dec 24 on Swedish TV. Dirawi has previously hosted large TV events such as the Eurovision qualifiers, as well as her own talk show. Putting Dirawi as host on Christmas has sparked outrage among the anti-Islam Swedish right, as Dirawi comes from a Muslim background.
Most of the criticism appear to be coming from the far right party Sverige Demokraterna and their hang-arounds online. They speak in terms of an attack on the Christian Sweden.
The programming Dirawi will be presenting includes cartoons about sharing as well as an hour of Donald Duck.
My opinion is that Sweden is a secular nation, and that the Christmas programming is non-religious. Thus it should not matter what the faith of the host is.
