The Judicial View of Male Rape Victims

There is, of course, the well-known example of George O'Dowd (aka Boy George) who served a whole four months in a case of male rape. Not that he was convicted of rape.

I'm ashamed to say this story is from NZ, where a guilty verdict in the case of raping a male with an object - a broom handle - so severely his injuries couldn't be immediately assessed, has brought a sentence of 9 months probation.

I am 100% certain that if the victim had been female, the sentence would have been jail for at least five years.

Do note the cute coincidence that actual penalty part of the attack brought a sentence of 80 hours community service, which is exactly the same as the sentence he got for traffic fines.

Ergo: in NZ law, your punishment for raping and injuring an unconscious bloke will get you no worse punishment than speeding.
