Malicious emails originating from China?

This may sound more worthy of the Conspiracy Theories sub-forum but over the last 6 weeks or so, 5-6 times a day I've been getting emails with attachments to an account I used to register a domain name. Initially, I deleted them without bothering to look at them (general practise with emails from unknown sources especially ones with attachments) but after a while, I started making note of the header information. I noticed that unlike other spam, they only ever come to that one account and they all resolve to Beijing. A couple of times, an email would get downloaded to my mail program and out of curiousity, I opened the email. The attachment was an apparently unnamed Excel file (which of course, I didn't open) and I deleted the files off my system straight away. So I assume no damage done.

Now a couple of weeks after the emails started, I got a series of inquiries asking if I wanted to sell the domain (I don't) and including ever-increasing offers. Again, the emails resolved to China and it doesn't surprise me that there's an interest in the domain from that quarter.

Anyone ever heard of anything like this? Any advice?

TIA

Fitz
