A friend of a friend once walked past a charity pot at Christmastime, advertising their mission to help the hungry in whatever God-forsaken place was purportedly most in need at the time. He produced his wallet, pulled out a condom and tossed it in amongst the coins and bills, saying, "There, show them how to use it!"
It seems rational that birth rates in times of war, famine, or other disasters, should drop. Only crazy people would have children knowing they're in for hard times on the order of famines or wars. I'm thinking of Syria right now. Shouldn't the birth rate for Syrian refugees be zero? If it's not zero, what explains it? An irresistible male urge to copulate/power rape their wives mated with lack of prophylactics?
