So, English posters, going to the pub today? Have you already been?
English pubs and restaurants were able to open from 6am today and the government has apparently been encouraging us to go out and get a skinful. Minimum distance has been reduced from two meters to "1-Plus' which is supposed to mean "1 meter if using PPE" but yeah that's gonna work in a pub.
My sympathy is with bar staff, I know a lot of pubs are taking pre bookings and two hour slots seems to be standard but bat staff are are going to have to get people to leave when that time is up and are likely to have to turn people away when the pubs hit capacity, as the day goes on the people leaving one pub may in some cases be trying to get into another, with two hours rushed drinking behind them, I can see this being a problem.
I still think opening on a Saturday was utterly stupid, but the dull weather will reduce demand to a degree, my biggest concern was that we'd have a blazing afternoon followed by sudden heavy rain, so that full pub gardens wanted to get into the buildings en mass. With the weather today I don't think the gardens will be so full but I think it will still be a concern.
I hope I'm wrong, but given the English relationship with alcohol I think this is going to be a bad day for barstaff, police and NHS staff.
