Suppose the Revolution had gone the other way? ?

The debate now about how much honor we owe the Founding Fathers leaves me wondering what the U.S. would be like today if the American Revolution had failed? England certainly had the resources to crush the colonies if it wanted to. Slavery would have ended pretty quickly, as it already had in England. How would the U.S. economy have developed differently? Would there have been another revolutionary movement? Would individual colonies have tried to declare independence? Or would we have ended up pretty much like Canada, maybe even merged with them?
