Many years ago I watched a program about the way humans interacted with one another. When we argue with one another and one person loses the argument the usual response is to avoid contact either through intimidation or causing your opponent to rethink his or her position. I thought this was interesting.
My cousin's daughter was five and she was very intelligent bordering on genius. I decided to start an argument in miniature with her.
I said "come here" this caused her to get as close to her mother as possible albeit with a smile on her face. I gestured into the air avoiding eye contact and said "yes".
I then said again to her "come here" and this time she said no but with much less fear. Again I said "come here" and this time she gestured into the thin air and said no. I said yes. She said no.
She was enjoying herself as she was winning said argument. I decided to end the exchange and merely said nice things to my cousin and her child. The little girl wanted more entertainment so I read her a disney themed comic book.
