My cousin's daughter is 13 and being childless myself I kind of dote on her and her brother. One day after I cashed a stimulus check she asked her Grandfather and me if she could do something for some money. Mop dust clean etc. My Uncle said no.
She looked disappointed and after her Grandfather walked out of the room I said "psst" here's some money. It was a crisp $100.00 bill. She was hopping around and I said all you have to do is spend the money on something that makes you happy.
I asked her not to tell her Grandfather because he might think something ill of me but here's why I gave her the money.
My only failed marriage produced no children. She's all I got. Her and her younger brother.
Her younger brother who is ten was given a WW2 vintage bayonet complete with scabbard and belt. A true collector's item.
At age 73 I feel similar to a doting old maid Aunt.
