One recurring theme in the "cops kill person" thread is that, unlike many other countries, there aren't any definitive statistics about how many people are killed. There still aren't any definitive statistics but here is a link to a BBC story which summarises a Washington Post data collection exercise.

The number seems high to me but then again I don't properly understand the stresses of being a police officer in the U.S. and/or how well or badly they are indoctrinated or trained. It's still frustrating that these aren't definitive, official numbers but the result of a newspaper study.
