Scotland: Grangemouth and Unionist Politics

In a story so important it actually made the UK "national" news, Scotland's biggest refinery and an economic mainstay is at risk:

Don't be foooled by the reference to the refinery being open, they owners have made it quie clear that both are likely to be dispatched.

Being cynical, they made an unacceptable demand on the workforce knowing full well what the result would be, then blame them for the closure. This from a company that skipped to Switzerland when HMRC got understandably sniffy about late taxes. There are also considerable doubts in the Scottish press about the £10m a week "losses" allegedly being sustained.

Anyway, it seems to me that there is a glorious opportunity here for our Unionist overlords to show how serious they are about Scotland. If they step in and actually come up with a deal to save the plant, for example by finding a new owner, then they're going to find a lot of votes next September.

On the other hand if they don't, the SNP (who I am rather aprtial to, as you know) will point at "English" inaction (=votes) and do their damndest to either up with a solution (=votes).

Well Mr. Cameron & co, time to put your money where your mouths are.
