What does anyone know about the MTHFR gene?

I came across this looking at some Lyme disease stuff for another member. There were two brief mentions in autism threads. There's a bunch of gibberish online about it while at the same time there seems to be some legit science. The nickname for the gene (sound out the abbreviation) cannot be repeated in this forum because of :rule10 and that name alone suggests the whole thing is nonsense. But I can't readily find a decent webpage online because there are so many woo pages that pop up.

So I'm doing it the time saving way and asking what the wise members here already know about it. Thanks in advance. :)
